In the Community
One of Shire Canada's core values is 'caring'. The company is committed to
corporate responsibility, a key aspect of which is interaction with the
community. Our priority is to help and support the communities in which we
operate, both local communities where we have offices and where our employees
live, and wider communities that affect our patients and key customers.
Shire Canada is strongly driven by a desire to provide better lives for
patients and to contribute positively to the health of the community.
Employees are an important focus and play a key role in implementing Shire
Canada's community involvement and philanthropic initiatives.
For example, through the support of individual Shire Canada employees and
matching corporate donations, the company and its employees contributed over
$79,000 to the Centraide/United Way campaign in 2009.
Other key community stakeholders that we support include patient-driven,
not-for-profit associations as well as healthcare delivery and education
organizations linked to Shire Canada's key therapeutic areas (Attention
Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, gastrointestinal and renal diseases, human
genetic therapies).
Shire Canada supports various organizations that contribute to improving the
quality of life for Canadians. Examples include:
- Montreal Children's Hospital
- Université de Montréal
- Kidney Foundation of Canada
- Learning Disabilities Association of Canada and its various provincial
Associations
- Centre for ADD/ADHD Advocacy, Canada
- Health Partners International of Canada
Shire Canada, through its partnership with ViiV Healthcare, also
provides support to community organizations focused on improving the lives
of people living with HIV in Canada.
Through the commitment of its employees, Shire Canada is making a difference
in the lives of Canadians and the communities in which they live.
